VOLUM is the electronic alias of Montreal-based composer, visual artist, and designer Alexandre Nuance — a project built for the underground, shaped by industrial architecture, and sharpened on late-night dancefloors.
Forged in Tiohtià:ke / Montreal’s warehouse scene, VOLUM merges industrial tech-house, UKG, jungle, and bass-driven electronica into a sound that hits with deep, sharp, stank-face energy. His sets are designed for impact: nasty drops, gritty swing, razor-tight percussion, and pressure that sits low and heavy.
VOLUM threads cinema samples, meme-culture cuts, poetic fragments, and bootleg edits into his mixes, turning every set into a narrative 𓂃 a hybrid of sonic collage, underground humour, and emotional undercurrent. The result is a storytelling DJ experience where tension, texture, and bass weight shape the crowd’s journey. With roots in the city’s DIY arts community, VOLUM’s musical language pulls from the aesthetics of industrial spaces, performance art, and raw, textured production.
This new phase marks a pivot toward an even more warehouse-focused, high-pressure, concept-driven direction — a place where design, sound, and subculture fuse into one.

Volum's Latest record 'The Great Eclipse ' is a progressive Astral Nu Jazz journey & a tribute to the awe-inducing Total Solar Eclipse, released on the same day on April 8th, 2024O
The record was mixed in 360 ° Audio Spatial at Montreal's PHI Studio in Collaboration with Phil Rochefort & Mastered by Justin Gray from Immersive Mastering, Toronto.

The intention for this project was to create a time stamp of the fastly evolving landscape of technology. Released in 2023, a year marked by artificial intelligence's widespread infiltration into the mainstream. Behind the music 'were a lot of inner tensions and existential reflections around the future of arts & civilization. A storm mixed with an intrinsic curiosity from the uncertainty and new possibilities.'
A four-piece, rythm heavy, electronic industrial house EP with deep bass presence & sharp sound design. 'I wanted this project to feel like a disk spinning out of control, almost like the sounds are trying to keep up with the times.'

Two years after his Ambient -Organica debut AURA (EP), Volum is back with a colorful blend of House/Jazztronica/ Electronic genres.
Produced, mixed & mastered by Volum over the span of world pandemic, this microalbum is a tribute to youth, innocence and the journey towards maturity. The title of the project relates to chrysalis (the stage of metamorphosis between larvae & butterfly) serving metaphor to this confined space of transformation.
This project was released on May 21st, 2022 - 9 months after Alexandre's first contact with the Tenor Saxophone.
